Going Green

Do you ever look at your life and wonder “how did I ever get here”? I imagine many of us do however not all of us get to where we are supposed to be in life. I remember myself in a different time, at a different place in my life when I was more concerned with what I had than what I needed, what I could get instead of wanting what I already had. I was a product of consumerism as many still are today. I’m not sure entirely what happened along the way to have me change from that to who I am now. I take great pleasure in a warm cup of coffee enjoyed in my backyard, eyes closed listening to the birds, morning sun on my face. Picking strawberries from my backyard, smelling the cherry blossoms in spring. Walking along the beach in the morning, feeling the cool water on my feet. This is what life is about. Life is good.

Keeping up with the Jones is now far from the mantra I live by. Spending my money on wholesome, organic ingredients instead of fast food is the best investment I can make in myself and my family. While we have embraced the organic food lifestyle for many years now, and switched all of our cleaning products and personal hygiene products to biodegradable and organic, we have now moved to a whole other dimension in green living that I never anticipated I would want – let alone realize. We have taken important steps to ensuring our footprint on this planet is minimized.

Father’s day brought my husband an Ego lawn mower for cutting the grass. It is battery operated and cuts beautifully. It is just as good if not better for obvious reasons than traditional gas powered mowers. I would recommend this mower to anyone looking for a next generation own mower that runs on battery:

We bought a new car this week – and it is entirely electric! While this is something that I believe in and want, researched for about two years now, it is also scary! Change is hard…

Nissan Leaf

Our boys are so happy with the car and excited to tell their friends that we will not be buying gas again. I am excited for the same reason! With as prices rising the number one topic lately around the preverbal water cooler is “did you see the price of gas”?! Now I can honestly say “no, I don’t care what the price of gas is because I don’t ever need to buy it again”! Our new car is a delight to drive and we are happy – we have only had it for three days now but it has been a welcome addition to our lifestyle. Our Nissan Leaf will be used for taking us back and forth to work each day, around the town for shopping, and other trips that historically burn our fuel. I am so excited even though the cost each month equals the same amount of money we were spending on gas, I drive with a smile and pride knowing I am not polluting or dependent on big business gasoline. I have been pleasantly surprised at the number of free charging stations that are easy to access. I can’t wait to see how this will continue to change our lifestyle…
